HubSpot announced new pricing and billing options Thursday, aiming to give marketing and operations teams more control over platform spending, particularly as HubSpot expands consumption-based pricing for AI capabilities.

The changes include:

- Account-level spending limits on HubSpot credits.
- The ability to exchange unused seats for credits.
- Additional payment options for teams whose usage exceeds monthly allocations.

The pricing announcement comes two weeks after HubSpot introduced a broader pricing overhaul for new customers in EMEA, replacing traditional product-based pricing with a model based on platform editions, seats, and usage credits.

While the two updates are distinct, today’s changes directly address pain points facing teams managing subscription costs and maintaining predictable budgets.

“Nobody should have to miss out on getting the most out of AI because they don’t know what the bill will be,” said HubSpot Chief Customer Officer Jon Dick in a statement announcing the changes.

## More control over AI spending

Navigating consumption-based AI pricing feels like aiming at a moving target. Unlike fixed seat fees, usage-based features make monthly expenses difficult to forecast — especially for teams actively experimenting with automated workflows and AI agents.

To eliminate surprise overage charges, HubSpot is introducing account-level credit spending limits. By default, initial caps will sit at 50% above a customer’s monthly allocation, though administrators can adjust these limits to match precise monthly budgets.

HubSpot is also expanding credit purchasing options, allowing teams to choose fixed monthly credit packs or pay-as-you-go billing when usage spikes.

These safeguards give operations teams the guardrails they need to encourage AI adoption across their organization without risking unexpected invoice spikes.

## More flexibility to adjust subscriptions

Managing team seats and contact limits can create a tug-of-war between shifting campaign needs and rigid contract terms. To relieve this friction, HubSpot is adding mid-cycle subscription controls.

HubSpot customers can now exchange unused seats for credits or swap between eligible seat types mid-contract, allowing operations teams to reallocate budget as team structures evolve.

HubSpot is also enabling hard limits on marketing-contact tiers to prevent automated, unbudgeted upgrades when contact lists grow — a long-standing headache for database managers.

HubSpot believes these controls will provide marketing leaders with practical levers to keep spending aligned with actual utilization.

## How this differs from HubSpot’s EMEA pricing overhaul

Today’s release builds on the fundamental pricing shift introduced in EMEA on Oct. 1.

Under the EMEA model, new HubSpot customers purchase unified platform access rather than HubSpot’s discrete hubs (such as Marketing Hub or Sales Hub). That structure uses Starter, Professional, and Enterprise editions paired with usage credits, and replaces the traditional contact tiers with email-send volume pricing.

By contrast, today’s announcement introduces controls that apply to existing subscription management structures, including contact-tier caps.
