# Digest: Anthropic’s IPO Filing Reveals Rising Ad Spend; Meta Seeks $95bn to Finance AI Expansion

> In today’s ExchangeWire News Digest, we discuss Anthropic’s IPO filing revealing that its advertising spend rose to USD$147m (£112m) in 2025, Meta planning a USD$95bn (£71.73bn) stock raise to fund its AI push as Elon Musk warns of a shakeout among AI cloud providers, and Comcast moving FreeWheel and Universal Ads under NBCUniversal.

##### Anthropic’s IPO filing reveals rising ad spend

Anthropic’s S-1 filing shows its advertising spend rose from USD$33m (£25m) in 2024 to USD$147m (£112m) in 2025, more than Duolingo spent on sales and marketing combined that year (USD$125.7m, or £95.5m). Spending rose further in the first half of 2026, and the filing links the increases to media and PR costs supporting launches such as Claude Code, Opus 4.5 and Claude Cowork. Advertising remains a small part of overall costs: sales, marketing and partnership expenses reached USD$3.17bn (£2.4bn) in the first half of 2026, mostly fees paid to cloud companies that resell Claude.

Revenue for the half reached USD$16.3bn (£12.4bn), up from USD$1.2bn (£0.9bn) a year earlier, with USD$13.1bn (£10bn) coming from usage-based billing, which the company expects to remain the bulk of its income. The filing treats the brand as a core asset and a risk, saying brand spending will rise as competition intensifies.

##### Meta seeks $95bn to finance AI expansion

Meta has announced plans to raise USD$95bn (£72.2bn) to pay for its AI expansion, with the money going towards data centres and what it calls “personal superintelligence”. The first part is USD$35bn (£26.6bn) from underwritten public stock offerings, with Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom showing interest as “cornerstone investors” that could buy up to USD$5bn (£3.8bn) of the shares. The second is a USD$60bn (£45.6bn) at-the-market offering, selling new stock at prevailing prices over time. It will use a new non-voting class C share, created last week, so Meta can sell it without diluting Mark Zuckerberg’s control.

The announcement came on the same day Elon Musk wrote on X that debt markets have almost entirely closed to companies without substantial revenue beyond AI datacentres.

##### Comcast to move FreeWheel and Universal Ads under NBCUniversal

Comcast intends to shift its video ad technology platform FreeWheel and its self-serve ad platform Universal Ads to NBCUniversal when the media business separates from Comcast next year, according to company communications obtained by Tipsheet. NBCUniversal chairman Matt Strauss said the move keeps FreeWheel closely aligned with the premium video market it serves, while preserving its independence as a standalone entity. Both businesses are expected to join NBCUniversal’s Media Group, with existing management teams and operational safeguards staying in place.

James Rooke, president of Comcast Advertising, will move to NBCUniversal and keep overseeing both businesses, while Mark McKee will continue to run FreeWheel day to day and James Borow will continue to lead Universal Ads. Strauss said they will remain independent and industry-agnostic, with firewalls protecting publisher clients, and that NBCUniversal Advertising and Sky Media will remain FreeWheel customers.
